I’m watching the weather for this upcoming weekend in Houston and it’s looking high of 85 and clear. My background in weather makes Jim Cantore interesting to me but on this day, as I’ve been following the Houston weather forecast for a while, I’m focused on seeing the rain has largely passed for this beautiful Memorial Park weekend, the annual Bayou City Arts Festival.

Here is your invitation. I sincerely hope you can attend. I know it’s not simple to get to – some of the best places are not simple: National Parks, crowded restaurants that require a wait … BCAF. It’s a beautiful weekend in the park and I hope you’ll stop by for a visit. I’ll be at booth 301. So many things have happened in the past year and it will be good to catch up on each other’s stories. BCAF is about art and it’s also about the experiences.
I’m painting in new styles that appeared suddenly at the end of March, adding increasing amounts of metallics; this time in outlines. It has taken months to build a collection ready for show. In addition to the ocean abstracts, I have created a collection of large scale floral paintings per a decade ago suggestion of one of my beloved patrons. The consensus has been that even people who don’t like flower paintings like my flower paintings; I’ll take that as a compliment. The florals for the last fifteen years have stood at twenty inches or fewer. Now they are reaching at 48 and even 60 inches. They were SO FUN to make!
It can take a long time to get to things; there are many ideas on my mind. I’m interested in working with homeless and also with Veterans, teaching art. That is simply a seed planted and I’m not certain where it goes next but the idea of working with Wounded Warriors in Tampa meanders through my mind perenially.
Now that I’m in Ocean Springs, it’s ever important to me to make the most of when I’m in Texas. I’ll be in Houston this upcoming weekend and then Galveston the following one. I’m interested in offering admission fee credits toward art that is $400 or more. Stay, visit, utilize the weekend as a respite from the stresses life can bring. We are in this together.
Together is the only way to be.
