A Beautiful Way to Live

The ability to rest is a good one. How many are running too hard, through life? I know I was. I wanted to rest, just didn’t feel I had a life that supported it. In the last year, I have learned to rest, someone taught me, and for that I am grateful. Someone taught me to rest on a blanket and listen to music. When I was tired as tired could be, my life began to change when I finally rested.

The ability to rest is an artful one. We find need for it in many parts of life. The eye needs to rest, while looking at a painting. Yes, the eye needs to be drawn around the artwork but it also needs to rest. Artists need to rest. The downtime is exceptionally productive for the creative flow of ideas. And, all people and animals need rest for the health of our bodies and the health of our lives.

Try taking a picnic or a walk in the park. Read a book. Try taking a nap, that’s a good place to be. Wherever you find yourself, you can find rest. You just need be determined to do it. The world screams loudly all the items needing our attention. Long lists of everything and everyone to take care of. People who will insist you not rest till all their needs are met and all goals accomplished.

Rest anyway. It is good for you. Not resting can be productive in the short run, but not in the long one. It is the long one that counts more than the short. Which one are you here for, in life? I know I’m here for the long one.

Blessings, and may you somehow find a way to rest today. Maybe you already know how and, if that is you, I applaud you. If you are not one of those people, I encourage you to learn yourself or find someone to teach you. Best yet, find someone to rest with. It is a beautiful way to live.
